While a video of highlights is essential for football players, this is not the case in basketball. Whether you are a star or not, it is easy to put together three minutes of highlights in basketball, that can make you look one of the best players in your area. The single most important thing that a college basketball coach wants to see is full game tapes. It is important for the coach to see what you are doing when you are not touching the ball, or what your demeanor is like. This is why college coaches do not sign players solely on their video clips.

Be Prepared

 It is important to have videos of your best two to four games at your disposal, ready upon request from the coach. It is not easy to search through years of tapes which have not been labeled, so if you have college aspirations it is best to start this process early and stay on top of your tapes.

If you want to put together a highlight section on the same DVD as the full game, this is perfectly fine. The coaches may have a little extra time and would like to see you at your best. If they like the full game, this does not mean an offer will present itself straight away, unless you are one of the best players in the country.  The coach may request more tapes or may come to your town and see you in person for a workout.
